LOCUST 904 ! – Locust

Directly from the manufacturer, we exclusively obtained the first photos of the new Locust 904, which replaces the flagship model 903. Is it really not a futuristic study, but the final form of a serial machine?

Slovak assumptions

As everyone knows, the Slovak manufacturer Way Industries has a privileged position in skid steer loaders. As a strong player on the Slovak and Czech markets, he has the means and the background to afford to bring something new to serial production. And he succeeded.

Like from another planet

Although the machine is based on the proven construction of the popular type 903, you would look in vain for common design elements. It is seldom seen that design follows the function so confidently. In this respect, the Locust 904 bears a strong Czech footprint. WAY Industries, a. S. Approached the studio of the leading Czech designer and two-time winner of the Red Dot Design Award, Martin Tvarůžek, to create a new concept for the arrangement of materials and new design.

View thanks to the lower boom position

The R&D and designers placed special emphasis on the view from the cab, which is one of the key parameters of the machine. Thanks to the new boom design, they achieved a 20 cm downward field of view. Overall, visibility has improved by 14%.

Thoughtful development

In this picture we see the developmental intermediate type. It is clear from it that the construction took place gradually from the familiar to the new. The intermediate stage cab and trestle are new, but the shape of the boom is still original, and the frame has not yet been redesigned and boxes have been created with user-friendly service accesses on the sides.

360 ° service access

The final version has just those boxes that serve to facilitate regular maintenance. The right box hides a retractable air filter, a battery with a disconnector and a fuel filler neck, while under the cover of the left box we find a fan for additional cooling of the hydraulic oil, a reservoir for windshield washers and an opening for refilling hydraulic oil.

Covered tanks

If you would like to know where the hydraulic oil and fuel tanks have gone, know that they are now built directly into the machine frame. The newly created space under the above-mentioned boxes can be used to place counterweights. The load capacity of the loader is 900 kg, with an additional counterweight of 1000 kg.

The loader has also undergone innovations in its interior. In addition to the newly processed plastic covers, a color display and original built-in air conditioning await the engineers’ cab. We don’t have a complete photo of the interior yet. But you can look forward to it, because we are preparing a more detailed review associated with the inspection and testing of the machine.
